Chicago, Patrick, and How Flatley's Plumbing Express Came to Be!

In September of last year, our Patrick was featured in an article by the Voyage Chicago. He was given the opportunity to shed a little light on his history, his family, and how Flatley’s Plumbing Express has become the business that you all know today! We thought that we would revisit some of the information covered in the article in case you missed it! If you don’t already know Patrick Flatley of Flatley’s Plumbing Express, here’s a little bit about him.

How Flatley’s Plumbing Express Came to Be

Patrick’s parents were Irish Immigrants who came to America searching for the American Dream. Before starting the business, his father Michael J. Flatley worked in construction as a bricklayer as well as in plumbing. After meeting and marrying his wife Eilish, the two decided to start their own business in 1960! From there, Mike Flatley’s Sewer Service was born.

The two worked side by side and as time went on and the business grew larger, they hired help to work with them. Patrick’s father used to take him along to work with him to help him learn the trade. Eventually, the company name was changed to Flatley’s Plumbing Express. In 1987, Patrick took the Chicago Plumbing Test and went on to become a licensed plumber of Illinois. When Michael retired in 2000, Patrick resumed operations. His vision for the company was the exact same as his father’s – a family business dedicated to assisting Chicago residents with all of their plumbing needs.

What Sets Flatley’s Apart

In 2005, Michael Flatley passed away at 87. In December of 2016, Patrick’s mother, Eilish, passed away at 81. Patrick has a photo of them in his office to remind him of where it all started – of how Flatley’s Plumbing Express came to be!
